Matthew Fox became famous for his role as Dr. Jack Shephard in the series Lost. Despite his success, he decided to leave Hollywood behind at the peak of his acting career.

Now, Fox is returning to action with an appearance in The Madison, a spin-off of Yellowstone. The actor, now 59, spoke about his career during the launch of the series on Monday (9).

In a conversation with Variety magazine, he explained that the decision was motivated by his desire to focus on his family, since the intense filming schedule of Lost meant he was missing many moments in the development of his children, Kyle, now 28, and Byron, 25.

“I felt that it was time to really get deeply involved with my family. I missed part of their childhood because I was on set all the time with Lost, making films and promoting everything,” Fox said.

“It was the right moment for me to take a step back, take some time, and get involved with the people I love and care about most in the world.”

But after more than a decade, Fox said he eventually began to miss the craft. Fox returned to television in 2022 with the series Last Light, marking his first TV role since Lost ended in 2010.

“I kind of missed telling stories,” Fox explained, saying that this made him quickly say “yes” when producer Taylor Sheridan asked him about joining the cast of The Madison.
